Stone marking the grave of Benjamin
Linder, an internationalist from Portland, Oregon, who
was killed by La contra (in English, the "Contras")
in the counterrevolutionary movement against the Sandinista
government of Nicaragua, 1987. The Contras were organized
and funded by the United States government, which was
opposed to the Nicaraguan Revolution that came to power
in 1979 and was voted out of office in 1990 after a
long and bloody conflict.
