Woman wearing
a modern re-creation of a pre-Columbian indigenous costume
walks in a parade in Queretaro, Mexico, carrying a banner
with Santiago's image. Santiago was the patron saint
of the Spanish conquerors. He was originally known as
Santiago Matamoros (Moor killer) and, in the Americas,
was sometimes called Santiago Mata-Indios, which makes
this juxtaposition ironic.
