| Tlayacapan, Morelos |
|
This is the ayuntamiento
or cabildo (town council) building of Tlayacapan, a pueblo
in the state of Morelos. At least some of this structure
dates from the colonial era, when Tlayacapan was governed
by an indigenous town council. Placement of such structures
on town squares was typical, as were architectural features
such as the arches found on this building. The existence
and good repair of such structures was one important mark
of "true" municipal status during the colonial era.
