The capilla abierta
(open chapel) of Yautepec's (state of Morelos) main
church, a former monastery. The open chapel-style building
was using the first permanent structure built by the
friars as they began their efforts to convert the native
peoples to Christianity. The altar was located under
the arch, while the vast congregation of neophytes stood
in an open plaza fronting the building.
